Urgent Memo for Members 4/3/20

The health departments in our communities are so overloaded that they are not always able to tell us which of our co-ops have confirmed COVID-19 cases. We are not able to report when there is a positive case in the co-ops at this point. WE MUST ALL ASSUME THAT THE CORONAVIRUS IS IN ALL OF OUR CO-OPS.

Please refer to your local health department's website to see numbers of positive COVID-19 cases and deaths in your area. These numbers are deceivingly low because not everyone was tested. These numbers are increasing daily. The CDC and local health departments all expect an upsurge in COVID-19 cases and deaths this month.

STAY HOME means STAY IN YOUR APARTMENT. Entering common areas of your co-op are allowed for essential reasons only. You may leave your apartment in an emergency, to get your mail, to check the COVID-19 info board, to get food or prescriptions, or to seek medical care. No one should be gathering or utilizing common areas. The Governor’s Stay Home definition means STAY IN YOUR APARTMENT. It means we are ONLY allowed to have ESSENTIAL VISITORS (food and prescription delivery and medical services.) THE SAFEST PLACE FOR YOU IS INSIDE YOUR APARTMENT, ISOLATED FROM EVERYONE ELSE.

STOP THE SPREAD. If you have essential business (getting mail, food, prescriptions, or seeking medical care) then you MUST keep at least 6 feet away from others. This is for everyone’s protection. Also stop the spread by cleaning your hands and disinfecting your apartment. Don’t touch eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands. If you leave your apartment, please follow all CDC advice, such as covering your mouth/nose with a face mask, scarf, or bandana. It is critical to wash the coverup after each use.

SAVE LIVES. A PERSON CAN HAVE THE VIRUS AND NOT HAVE SYMPTOMS. YOU WON’T NECESSARILY KNOW YOU HAVE COVID-19. You can spread the disease to others without knowing it. Assume you have the disease and stay in your apartment. Assume others have the disease and stay in your apartment. The longer it takes for everyone to follow the CDC guidelines, the more people will die from this new disease.

IT IS WORTH REPEATING: ASSUME THE CORONAVIRUS IS IN YOUR CO-OP.

THE VERY BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS IS TO ISOLATE YOURSELF IN YOUR APARTMENT—EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO SYMPTOMS.

Violations of state orders and CDC guidelines which result in putting our members and staff at risk are considered violations of the lease agreement. The safety of all members and staff is our number 1 priority.

Thank you to everyone who have been doing the right thing.

Stay home. Stop the spread. Save lives.
